SpeakerAndreas Heinrich

Heinrich is a world-leading researcher in the field of atomic-scale science in solids. He pioneered spin excitation spectroscopy with scanning tunneling microscopes - a method that has provided high-resolution access to the quantum states of atoms and nanostructures on surfaces. He has a track record of outstanding publications, exemplified by many first and last author Science papers, and has given numerous invited talks at international conferences and workshops. Through his research and extensive travel, Heinrich has established a strong network of global collaborators. After working for 18 years at IBM Research in California, USA, Heinrich joined the physics department of Ewha Womans University in 2016. In addition to his outstanding scientific work, Heinrich is a frequent presenter to general public, including school classes and corporate and political leaders. He is the main author of the world's smallest movie "A Boy and his Atom", available on YouTube, which is part of an education campaign to promote basic science research. Heinrich's scientific and public outreach work has received extensive media coverage worldwide. abstract
